пол. альтернативные движения (новые общественные движения, стремящиеся найти решения актуальных проблем, напр., проблем экологии, войны и мира, качества жизни и т. п., отличные от подходов, предлагаемых традиционными социальными организациями; характеризуются критическим отношением ко многим явлениям современного общества, вплоть до протеста против господствующего социального строя, поиском альтернативного пути развития; возникли в 70-х гг. 20 в. в западноевропейских странах в результате усугубления многих актуальных проблем, кризиса доверия к государственным структурам, традиционным политическим партиям и профсоюзам, расширения сфер для проявления социальной активности на местах и т. д.; разнородны как по проблематике: экологические, пацифистские, гражданские инициативы, так и по социальному составу; имеют более высокий процент участия молодежи, чем в традиционных общественных организациях; активность альтернативных движений имеет различные формы: от неформальной до партийной и парламентской деятельности)
